"A
disciple is not above his teacher, nor a
servant above his Lord. It is enough for
the disciple that he be as a teacher,
and the servant as his Lord. If they
have called the master of the house
Beelzebub, how much more them of his
household. "
(Matt 10:24-25 ASV)
In most occupations there is only
one person at the absolute top, everyone
else is a part of the support staff. If
one hangs in there long enough, the top
position may open up. This is possible
in the affairs of men.
Though this is true in the
business sector, there is no top
position to be acquired in the business
of our God. The top position has already
been given to Christ and will continue
until time no longer exists (I
Corinthians 15:25-28). In this most
important business of spiritual warfare
you can never own the business. (Matthew
16:18). In the business of God, you can
never rise above the position of
servant, "But you are not to be called
'Rabbi,' for you have only one Master
and you are all brothers. And do not
call anyone on earth 'father,' for you
have one Father, and he is in heaven.
Nor are you to be called 'teacher,' for
you have one Teacher, the Christ. The
greatest among you will be your servant.
For whoever exalts himself will be
humbled, and whoever humbles himself
will be exalted." (Matthew 23:8-12 NIV)
When you came into the Lord's
church and left the ways of the world,
you gave up striving after selfish
ambitions and surrendered your life to
the position of servant, "But thanks be
to God, that, whereas ye delivered; and
being made free from sin, ye became
servants of righteousness...But now
being made free from sin and become
servants to God, ye have your fruit unto
sanctification, and the end eternal
life" (Romans 6:17-18, 22 ASV). If you
do not want to be a servant there is no
other position for you in the Lord.
When we come into the body of the
Lord we come in to serve and carry out
the responsibilities assigned to us,
"...to the intent that now unto the
principalities and the powers in the
heavenly places might be made known
through the church the manifold wisdom
of God, according to the eternal purpose
which he purposed in Christ Jesus our
Lord" (Ephesians 3:10-11 ASV) Christians
(servants) have awesome responsibilities
in fulfilling their duties in the Lord
in bringing the church to its
completeness, "He that descended is the
same also that ascended up for above all
heavens, that he might fill all things.
And he gave some apostles; and some,
prophets; and some, evangelists; and
some, pastors and teachers; For the
perfecting of the saints, for the work
of the ministry, for the edifying of the
body of Christ: Till we all come in the
unity of the faith, and of the knowledge
of the Son of God, unto a perfect man,
unto the measure of the stature of the
fulness of Christ." (Ephesians 4:10-13
KJV).
If you do not want to be a
servant of the Lord, then your not
becoming one makes you a servant of
Satan. You are a servant of one or the
other; there is no neutral grounds,
"Know ye not, that to whom ye present
yourselves as servants unto obedience,
his servants ye are whom ye obey;
whether of sin unto death, or of
obedience unto righteousness?" (Romans
6:16 ASV)
By not choosing to become a
servant you will never move to the
position of a child of God, therefore
you can never expect to be an heir of
God. Servitude comes before son-ship,
"But when the fulness of the time was
come, God sent forth his son, made of a
woman, made under the law, To redeem
them that were under the law, that we
might receive the adoption of sons. And
because ye are sons, God hath sent forth
the Spirit of his Son into your hearts,
crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art
no more a servant, but a son; and if a
son, then an heir of God through Christ"
(Galatians 4:4-7 KJV)
God has already chosen His head:
Christ, He is now looking for servants,
"After these things the Lord appointed
other seventy also, and sent them two
and two before his face into every city
and place, whither he himself would
come. Therefore said he unto them, The
harvest truly is great, but the
labourers are few: pray ye therefore the
Lord of the harvest, that he would send
forth labourers into his harvest. (Luke
10:1-2 KJV). Are you a servant?
